The Greek Alphabet and its true pronunciation

In Greece, the Greek language the vast majority of the 10 million people, the only major exception to the Muslims of Western Thrace, this is 160,000, and most of the Turkish or Bulgarian speaking with the accent.
Surprising number of forgotten Black Sea Greeks has appeared after the disintegration of the Soviet Union. These groups, which do not know for each other, Stalin deported in central Asia, is now largely unable to speak Greek anymore. Finally, it is necessary to mention a large number of Greeks who are emigrate in both America and Australia, and later also in Western Europe.

All educated Europeans, because of its use in science, are at least a litlle familiar with Greek alphabet.Here you see in the form, which was finally established in 403 BC.. Small characters are of course caused much later. Please see also how the names of the characters spelling in modern Greek:

As you can see, the letters, otherwise than in the Latin alphabet,are named in the whole words. You may not notice unless you know Greek, that those words have no meaning - in fact, only the names of the characters. The reason for this is that these words, along with the characters, borrowed from the Phoenician language - Semitic language, which had significance: alpha (Hebrew Alef) meant (and, in its oldest form also represented) bulls head, beta (Hebrew Beth), the mean (and represent) a house, and so on.
